Crate and Burial

In this episode, a women is missing and her husband asks CSI to find her. Eventually they find her, and the person who had hid her was found. There was a catch however; after a series of tests and voice recognition tests, CSI determined that the women was actually involved in the kidnappings, and her abductee was actually in a relationship with her. I found this interesting because of the way that they used voice recognition tests to find out that the lady was actually involved. Once again, they were able to deduct the truth from what seemed to be minimal evidence.

Forensic Anthropology

So...this week, we've started to watch an episode in which an old lady is suspected of killing her husband. Also in the episode, a group of women are suspected of killing an exotic dancer they had hired to dance for then during a bachlorette party. We haven't finished the episode so im not exactly sure of the outcome, however there were a couple of interesting things that i noticed. For example, there was a bone specialist who helped determine the type of weapon used and how the body was dismembered, simply by looking at some of the cut marks on the body of the old man. The specialist, who, seemed to have a fancy for inspector griffin, was able to determine the physical attributes of the murderer based on the way the blade had cut through the bone. I thought that was very interesting. How so much can be deducted from so little is very intriguing. Furthermore, in the case with the dancer, i noticed the level of attention and the keen attention to details necessary to be a CSI investigator. For example when one of the two inspectors found a very small diamond and was able to determine that it was not really a diamond. I thought that was also interesting. So, despite the fact that we were not able to complete the show, i nonetheless found it very interesting...what about you?

I-15 murders

So this week on CSI we saw an episode where middle age ladies were being kidnapped by some truckers and frozen, then dropped off on the interstate. Their deductions were interesting. I found the handwriting analysis pretty cool. I didnt know that that type of technology and information was available. Furthermore, I found it pretty sweet how the traffic control lady was able to narrow down results to just one suspect. Everything in this episode seemed fairly believable, i didnt think there was much that did not seem real. What do you guys think?

Entomology in CSI

Entomology- is the scientific study of insects. Insects have many kinds of interactions with humans and other forms of life on earth, so it is an important specialty within biology. To the trained forensic entomologist, insects provide vital clues concerning the time and circumstance of a death, whether or not a body was moved, the timing of infliction of wounds, and whether or not drugs or toxins contributed to the victims demise. In addition to homicides, forensic entomology is also used to help solve crimes and civil issues involving abuse and neglect, stored products and structural defects. I really enjoyed the CSI episode where Grisome used insects to determine the time of death of Keye. Based on research that our group did earlier, it seems that Entomology is actually used in CSI investigations. Therefore, our group agrees with the CSI episode. We found it kind of disgusting when Grisome used the pig however.

CSI Forensics

Biotechnology is used in criminal cases to verify the suspect, and determine whether or not they are guilty. Crime Scene investigators utilize certain sciences and technology, such as DNA tests. As a result of Biotechnology, Forensics have been able to detain an increasing number of suspects. However there are certain pros and cons to the CSI series. Firstly, CSI exposes to the field, and allows us to become more familiar with Biotechnology, and Forensics. One negative aspect of Biotechnology is the fact that sometimes, it is a bit unbelievable, and the techonology that they use may not really exist.
